The laughter emanating from downtown Clinton this past weekend was likely coming from the Sampson Community Theatre where the final three performances of “Barefoot in the Park” were being given by a dedicated cast of veteran actors.

The guest cameo role of a delivery man was played by some old geezer one night, attorney Albert Kirby the next and Fred Holland on Sunday afternoon. The latter two received loud applause and no hoots or boos.

Erica Miller again gave such a busy-bee performance that she left 75 percent of the audience gasping for breath while Nick Owen was superb as a young lawyer having to put up with all her shenanigans. Gary Wilson presented his lines in some sort of accent resembling Albanian or Czechoslavakian and Gretta Steffens was perfect as the nosiest of mothers. Bruce Creech enjoyed his role as a telephone repairman so much that he is considering trying to hire on at Sprint.

If you missed seeing “Barefoot in the Park” you not only missed some talented actors but you missed a chance to laugh a lot. The backstage crew, under Jessica Watts’ watchful eye, did an exceptional good job in getting the stage ready between scenes as they had to completely furnish the one room apartment using furniture from Clinton Appliance and Furniture as part of their sponsorship. The set was constructed by Dan Holland with help from his daughter Madison and Gary Wilson. Tom Wilbur is to be commended for the excellent cast he selected who gave us six great shows. Thanks Tom!!!!!

Don’t forget that next week, Saturday, May 3, the director will be holding auditions for “Grease,” which will have a large cast, eight performances and is sponsored by Performance Dodge.

Thoughts until next week:

• If you make listening and observation your occupation you will gain more than you can by talk.

•For every minute you are angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness.

• Constant kindness can accomplish much, As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.
