There is a fair number of young adults and some older adults that were teenagers and younger adults the last time “Grease” was performed on the big stage of the Sampson Community Theatre in January 2003. We welcome the members of that cast to return in two weeks to watch and sing along as they become teenagers again for a few hours.

We also welcome everyone else who remembers the 50’s or who likes musicals because “Grease” is a Rock ‘n Roll musical which helped usher in a new era that included poodle skirts, saddle shoes, Levi’s, TV dinners, drive-in movies, leather jackets and ducktails, the Ed Sullivan Show and Elvis Presley.

“Grease” opens at 8 p.m. on June 19 for the first of its eight show run. The stage managers are April Best and Tracy Kirkland; the set is being constructed by them and Allen Blanchard, Kenneth Best, and Kathy Gutierrez; the backdrops are painted by Anne Wicke and Madison Holland; lights and sound is being handled by Will Hernan; and the spotlights will be guided by James Carr and Logan Best.

If you would like to get your tickets early they are available now at InkSpot and Matthews Drugs.

Thanks to Performance Dodge for their sponsorship which helps to defray some of the costs for “Grease.”

Since there are two casts for “Grease,” one is named “Movers” and the other “Shakers”. For your information the Movers cast will perform on June 19, 21, 27, 29 while the Shakers cast will appear on June 20, 22, 26, 28. If there is a person you specifically want to see you will need to contact them to find out which cast they are in. Also it would be a good idea for you to get to the theater early because seats are not reserved and when all the tickets are sold you will be out of luck for this show.

Auditions for DISNEY’S LITTLE MERMAID, JR. are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 21 and at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. Actors needed ages 4-15. Performances in Mid August.

In July the Board will begin considering plays for our 2015 season. If there is a special show you would like to see on our stage, you are requested to call us at 592-8653, leave us a message to include the play or plays you would like to see and your suggestions will be considered.

Our website is available at: www.sampsoncommunitytheatre.org and we are on Facebook but if you visit us there, we ask that you “like” us while there.

Thuoghts until next week:

• Old age is when it takes longer to rest than to get tired.

• Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life: define yourself.

• Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation. Your character is what you are really are while your reputation is merely what others think you are.
