This is the final weekend and your last chance to see “Barefoot in the Park” at the Sampson Community Theatre. Last weekend, the cameo role of a delivery man was played by Clinton Mayor Lew Starling the first night, then by Sheriff Jimmy Thornton the second night, and by local veterinarian Dr. Billy Oglesby on Sunday afternoon. Each of them was on stage for a maximum of 1 minute and they did not say a word yet delivered a smashing performance each time.

Who will appear in cameo roles this weekend?? You will just have to be there to find out, and it will be a different person each performance.

In addition, Erica Miller will not only make you laugh but she will make you feel like you have run a marathon as she runs, flits and scampers all over the stage from start to finish, and from one crisis to another.

Thanks to Bruce Creech for filling in as the telephone repairman during the final week of rehearsals and to Jessica Watts, who as the stage manager is the glue that holds the play together, and to Dan Holland for his construction of the set with help from his daughter Madison, and Gary Wilson who also plays a major role in the show, Gretta Steffens plays a perfect nosy, interfering mother and Nick Owen plays a long-suffering bridegroom.

We urge you to attend one of the three remaining shows and laugh to your heart’s content. Many, many thanks to Clinton Appliance and Furniture for their sponsorship; they are mentioned several times during the show.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our theater board co-chairman G. Wayne Melvin who he is waiting to undergo major surgery at a Durham hospital. Keep a stiff upper lip Gary as we are clapping for you as we have many times in the past during you curtain calls.

We are proud to announce that a sponsor for “Grease” has stepped forward and joined our select group of sponsors. Performance Dodge, a relatively new business in town, has agreed to back the fabulous production of “Grease,”which is scheduled to have eight performances in June. Thank you Performance Dodge!!!!

2014 Patron Sponsor tickets are still available for a donation to the theater. These consist of two complimentary tickets to every show we produce in 2014. Contact any board member to obtain yours and be entertained all year. If you would like a Gift Certificate for family members or friends they may be obtained for half the Patron Sponsor donation and you may get as many as you like by calling 990-4510.

Our website is available at: www.sampsoncommunitytheatre.org and we are on Facebook but if you visit us there, we ask that you “like” us while there.

Thoughts until next week:

• Beauty in things exists in the mind which contemplates them.

• You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.

• In just two days from now, tomorrow will be yesterday.
