The big stage of the Sampson Community Theatre is getting some rest from the huge cast of “Oklahoma!” but’s it’s still a busy place with ongoing rehearsals of “Crimes Of The Heart” which is being directed by Justin Lockamy and has a cast of only six actors.

Justin is a young man who grew up in the bustling metropolis of Mingo Township of Sampson County and began his acting career as a freshman in high school in the joint production of the theater programs at Midway and Hobbton. He pursued theater and film at the N.C. School of Math and Science and later at UNC-Chapel Hill where he earned a scholarship in playwriting and a bachelor’s degree in dramatic arts. While at Chapel Hill he worked at the Morehead Planetarium and met his wife, Lucy, through a mutual friend. Not knowing what to do, Justin then went to LA and worked primarily at the Griffith Observatory teaching astronomy. He also worked with a theater troupe in North Hollywood where he had a play produced that he had written.

In the meantime Lucy had moved to Nebraska so Justin, head 0ver heels in love with Lucy, followed her there, married her and obtained a law degree from the University of Nebraska. He has been the playwright of plays written by him in Chapel Hill, LA, and Clinton. He and Lucy moved back to Sampson County and he now is employed as an attorney at Warrick and Bradshaw in Clinton. We are indeed fortunate to have a director with his credentials get “Crimes Of The Heart” ready for our audiences to enjoy in four weeks so start making your plans to attend.

The Sampson Community Theatre has its long-awaited website up and running. You may read about some of our past and ongoing activities by going to www.sampsoncommunitytheatre.org

Thoughts until next week:

• Children observe daily and—in their behavior—often follow the example of their parents.

• Great talkers are little doers.

• Do not think that one enemy is insignificant, or that a thousand friends are too few.
