Fifth-grade students in Angie Bass and Julie Stanley’s homerooms at Union Intermediate had a guest speaker on Monday, Sept. 23.

Lisa Smith, a registered nurse, and mother of fifth-grader McKenzie Taylor, spoke to the classes about body systems.

Mrs. Smith allowed the students to listen to their hearts and their lungs, and talked with students about ways to live a healthy lifestyle.

The youngsters were intrigued to learn that if you lived to be 70, your heart would have beaten over 2 ½ million times.
