A Friday afternoon traffic stop in Newton Grove led to the seizure of a 12-gram cocaine “cookie” and the arrest of an area resident.

According to Police Chief Frankie Harrell, officer Austin Coleman arrested Anthony Maurice Robinson, 36, of S. Johnson Street, Newton Grove, charging him with possession of crack cocaine and driving while license revoked. He also had an outstanding warrant for a failure to appear in Harnett County that was served at the time of his arrest.

“The officer observed the vehicle and knew the driver did not have a driver’s license,” said Harell said in detailing how the arrest came about Friday. “The suspect pulled into the trailer park at Mt. Olive Drive where the officer got up next to the vehicle.”

Officer Coleman then found out about the warrant and asked the suspect for permission to search his vehicle, which the suspect gave, the chief noted.

“After lifting up the center arm rest, the crack fell between the seats,” explained Harrell, noting that Robinson told the officer it was for his personal use.” The cocaine, he said, was not packaged for distributing; however, the quantity was a lot for personal consumption.

“We are cracking down on drugs and the transport of drugs through Newton Grove,” said Harrell.
