Desire the truth
by Leonard Henry Contributing columnist
In 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Paul says to Timothy “For the time will come when they (saved and unsaved people) will not endure sound doctrine (The Gospel of Jesus Christ), but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth (the Bible) and shall be turned unto fables.”
This is happening all across the world right now, even as you read this article. Don’t believe it, just read any newspaper or watch any news show. Many people are turning from what the Bible says to their own gospel, and this is a scary thing.
What would you desire God to say to you through his word which comes from your pastor? Would you like a sermon that tells you that there are many ways to heaven or would you rather understand and know what the BIBLE says — that Jesus Christ and his works on the cross and our faith in what he did is the only way to heaven and to be with God? Would you like a sermon that tells you that you can live together and not be married and that God understands or would you rather understand and know what the Bible says in Romans 14:16 — “let not your good be evil spoken of?” And that means your testimony will not be as effective when it comes to witnessing for God because of the things that happen when two people live together.
Saints of God, it’s not the time for some feel good sermons, which are what most of us prefer to hear over the truth. But it’s the truth we need to set us free and to deliver us into the hands of God.
Jesus IS coming; God’s word is being fulfilled and if there is anything and I mean ANYTHING in our lives that’s not pleasing to God we need to REPENT NOW. If God calls you out, or your toes have been stepped on by what the preacher is saying then maybe that’s God’s way of telling you, or showing you, that you have some loose ends to tighten up.
Our duty is to open our ears and our hearts and hear and then act.
Let’s be honest and real — we all have some loose ends or should I say “some sinful habits and ways” that are not pleasing to God. As a Christian, we should desire the TRUTH even if it hurts; we should want the truth from God. The truth, which is God’s word, can be like a mirror when we read it. Having the truth spoken to you and not some watered down sermon can free you from believing that you are OK or you have no issues.
So many saved and unsaved people are being deceived, believing that they are OK and that they are not in need of God’s renewing, refreshing and restoring power that heals their mind, body and spirit. These once saved always saved religious sermons are not truth, and they are misleading people to think that they don’t have to be cleansed again by God.
Saints of God, please desire the truth and nothing but the truth, and seek it out, live by it, for it is what, with God’s love, will set you free.
