GREENVILLE - Jean Butler Winstead, 79, died peacefully in her sleep August 30, 2013 at her home in Greenville, N.C.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 2, in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel.
Jean was the daughter of Hugh and Effie Butler. She was raised in Sampson County, and graduated from the Watts School of Nursing in Durham. While she was a student, she met and fell in love with her husband, John Lindsay Winstead, Jr. They spent their early married years in Chapel Hill where all of their children were born. They made Greenville their permanent home in 1966.
Jean enjoyed the long-lasting friendships that she developed while living in Greenville and as a member of numerous social clubs. She enjoyed reading and gardening. She was also a member of The Memorial Baptist Church for 46 years and thoroughly enjoyed her Sunday School Class.
In addition to her grandparents and parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband John, and brother Mac Butler.
She is survived by: a son, John Lindsay Winstead III and wife, Rambel, of Cary; daughters, Margie Brohawn and husband, Michael, of Cary, Linda Vlahos and husband, Lambros, of Southern Shores, and Susan Ingram and husband, Frank, of Greenville; grandchildren, Tori Winstead, Marla Winstead, Ashleigh Winstead, Dimitrios Vlahos, Yanni Vlahos, Nicholas Vlahos, Lesley Ingram, Megan Ingram, and Sarah Ingram; sisters, Pat Lassiter, of Burlington, and Sara Savage, of Lillington.
The family would like to recognize Vidant Home Health and Hospice for their loving care and service.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Memorial Baptist Church or the charity of choice.
