Listen up! This is an opportunity that does not come around very often. A film co-starring the one and only George Clooney will be on the big screen in Clinton this weekend. Seriously, Clooney and some small, unknown actress named Sandra Bullock will be on the big screen at East Park Cinema. This is a very big occasion, and I will most definitely be in the audience for one of the shows this weekend. Also, that delicious popcorn is screaming out my name. “Katie! He’s here, no seriously!”
Now, I could I could go to Fayetteville and possibly see the film, Gravity, in 3D or on an IMAX screen. I could go to Raleigh and see it on an even better screen for all I know, but on the occasion that Clooney is on the screen in our small town, I have to go to East Park. It is imperative that I visit this theater and witness what I was starting to believe was impossible.
You see, the last time Clooney was a larger-than-life creature on a screen in Sampson was in 2008. Unfortunately, that movie, Leatherheads, did not whet the appetites of Clintonians. In fact, I think I was the only one who made my way to East Park to see it. If you by chance saw it there, I would love to hear from you. I will be glad to add you to my Clooney fan club listing.
It was sad that no one really wanted to see that film. Because there weren’t a lot of folks in those seats, it prevented other Clooney flicks from hitting that big screen again, until now.
Since that time, we have had lots of great George Clooney masterpieces make their way to many theaters, but not East Park. I guess Ray Cannon is putting a lot of hope in the fact that Bullock will bring in some people. I, too, am hoping for a big showing of people. This will be a potential catalyst for future Clooney flicks to make their way to East Park. Hey, I can hope!
The film, Gravity, looks to be a possible hit. At least, the potential is there with it being on a screen larger than the one at my parents’ house. I do not know much about the plot, but I know that Bullock and Clooney play astronauts. Also, I think there is some type of explosion that leaves the two floating in outer space and praying for survival. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
So, let’s all make a genuine effort to go see Gravity at East Park this weekend. Let’s make it the big blockbuster this weekend. I will do my part, and I hope everyone else will follow. We will be helping the Clooney fortune and supporting the local economy at the same time.
