Despite putting up a strong fight, the Harrells Christian Academy boys soccer team lost their season opener to Rocky Mount Academy, 0-4.
Crusader head coach Will Jones was disappointed with the loss, but optimistic about the new season.
“Great start for the season for the boys. We got our first game jitters out of the way. The boys fought hard the entire game never giving up. Davis Jones stepped in the net for us, due to Brenden Giles being out and played awesome. Davis had some big saves to keep us in it. We only had 1 sub the entire game and we kept marching toward the goal with shots from Spencer Cooke, Cole Nye, and Chris Cannady. In the end we came up short and we are learning from our mistakes; we will be prepared for the next game,” he said.
Shots on goal for Harrells came from Cole Nye- 1; Spencer Cooke - 2; and Chris Cannady - 2.
Goalie Davis Jones was credited with 13 saves and shots against Jones was counted at 25.
The Crusaders will have a break the next week. On Sept. 11, they will host Wallace-Rose Hill’s junior varsity and then on Sept. 17 Village Christian will come to Harrells and both the JV and varsity will compete.
