The Lady Leopards took down the Dark Horses in volleyball, winning both the junior varsity and varsity games.


Playing the best of 5, Clinton’s varsity won the first match with a score of 25- 21. Coming back and not returning, Lakewood won the next three matches: the score for the second match was 25-20, third match, 25-11, and the fourth match was 25-17.


Although they stayed close, Clinton could not manage to pull ahead for the lead.


Stats on Clinton showed Jessica Bell with 3 digs; Maria Thornton with 2 digs and 1 block; Tori Tyndall with 10 digs, 1 block, 3 kills, and 4 tips; Katelyn O’Neal with 6 digs and 1 ace; Caitlyn Perry with 2 digs and 1 tip; Maggie Wells with 1 dig, 2 blocks, 2 kills, and 8 tips; Skylar Ray with 2 digs; Elizabeth Tsao with 4 digs, 3 kills, 4 tips, and 4 aces; Jackie Parker with 7 digs, 1 kill, and 1 ace; and last, but not least Taylor Southerland with 4 digs.


Lakewood’s stats showed Rashyda Parker with 16 kills and 6 digs; Kiara Rich, 15 kills; Alyssa Horne, 5 aces and 5 digs; Emily Lewis, 7 aces, 9 digs, and 7 assists; Amanda Kook, 4 aces and 15 assists.


In JV action, the Leopards took the match in 2 sets, 19-25 and 21-25.


Clinton’s stats showed Jamie Jones with 1 block, 3 kills, 3 tips, and 1 ace; Madison Mitchel had 7 digs, 1 kill, and 3 aces.; Corey Spell had 3 tips; Jessica Hamilton had 1 dig; Francesca Jauregui had 1 dig, 1 block, 1 tip, and 3 aces; Zoey Harris had 4 digs, 1 kill, 4 tips, and 2 aces; and Sophia Owens had 3 tips.


For the junior varsity Leopards, Aleah Parker had 3 kills and 5 blocked shots; Alana Jackson, 5 aces; and Anna Heinz, 4 digs and 3 assists.


Both Leopard teams are 2-1 overall and both Clinton teams are 1-1 overall.


Lakewood begins conference action this week as they host Spring Creek on Tuesday, Aug. 27 and North Duplin on Thursday, Aug. 29.


The Dark Horses will travel to Hobbton on Wednesday for a rematch with the Wildcats and then begin their conference competition by hosting Pender on Thursday.
