Union’s girls soccer team took on West Bladen Wednesday night, and needed overtime to get the 5-3 win. The Lady Spartans took a 2-0 lead before leading 2-1 at halfitme. West Bladen tied the game early in the second half, Union got the lead back at 3-2, and West Bladen tied the game back up at 3 at the 8 minute mark.
In overtime, neither team scored in the first ten minutes, but Union scored twice in the second ten minutes to win the game.
Scoring for Union were Brianna Fredrick and Paola Seville with 2 goals each, and Blanca Herrera with a goal. Makalea Carter played well at goalie for the Lady Spartans.
“We really played well and I’m really pleased with the effort. The girls were able to keep their composure, even when it felt like West Bladen had the momentum. We played good defense and our strikers were given the opportunities to get good shots up. It was a great job by Carter playing goalie too. I’m pleased at the way our squad handled adversity tonight,” said Union’s head coach Jonathan Taylor.
Union is now 4-4 on the year and 2-2 in conference play. They travel to Pender next Tuesday for anther conference match-up.
