Midway Middle won two games this week before taking a week off from school and baseball. The Raiders downed Hobbton Monday, at Hobbton, winning 12-1. Midway then hosted Harrells Christian Academy Wednesday, and earned a tough, 7-6 win.
In the game against Hobbton, Midway started Carson Calcutt on the mound. Calcutt was the winning pitcher, as he went 4 innings, striking out 7. Donte Lindsey pitched an inning, and so did Chandler Williford, in relief. Each pitcher struck out a batter.
Offensively for Midway, Jaron Register was 1-4 with a run scored; Trevor Hobson, Dawson McLamb and Donte Lindsey were each 2-3. Hobson and McLamb each scored 2 runs and Lindsey crossed home plate once.
Midway gutted out a win against Harrells on Wednesday behind another strong pitching performance as a team. Austin Peterson and Carson Calcutt shared the duties on the mound, as they struck out a combined 7 batters. Calcutt and Peterson each put in good work at the plate as well, as they went 1-4 with a run scored, and 1-3 with 2 runs scored, respectively.
Other Midway offensive leaders included short-stop Jaron Register going 1-3, catcher Trevor Hobson going 2-3 with 2 runs scored, and Dawson McLamb and Chandler Williford each getting a hit in 4 plate appearances.
Coach Steven Tyler of Midway was pleased with his team’s two wins before spring break. “We’ll take a week off, enjoy it, then get back to work when we get back to school,” said Tyler.
After a week of good baseball, the Raiders deserve a week off.
