The Leopards were in non-conference play Wednesday night against in county rivals Midway Raiders. Coach Shelia Davidson said, “We got off to a much better start tonight than we did last night against Spring Creek. We had to because Midway has some great servers and we had to stop them from acing they are strong in that area.
In the first set, the Leopards went ahead early and stayed ahead with a 25-8 win.The second set was a back and forth game until the Leopards took a 14-7 lead, they were able to maintain the rest on that set winning 25-14.
The third set, however, was a different story the lady Raiders stay with the Leopards and took the lead several times leading by as many as 4 points at times. Coach Davidson called a time out and the Leopards came back and took the lead at 21-19 but the Raiders didn’t give up. By now the crowd in Lakewood gym were all on their feet and shouting for there teams as the Raiders came back 24-24. I took several serves from both teams but the Lady Leopards were able to pull out the victory with a score of 27-25.
The Leopards were lead by Rashyda Parker with 12 kills, Jordan Tew 7 kills, and Kiara Rich with 8 kills . Emily Lewis had 23 assists and Anna Heinz had 22 digs along with 4 aces.
Coach Davidson said, “Midway girls did a great job tonight with their hustle and just playing hard, but our girls were able to stop their serves and get the points when it really counted. We still need to work on our blocks, but the intensity was great tonight compared to last night.”
The Leopards are now 3-0 overall and 1-0 for conference play.. This does not included the UNC-P tournament from the weekend.
The Leopards will be back in conference play Thursday night at North Duplin game time 4:30.
