Hobbton, Lakewood and Midway got their cross country season under way Tuesday with an invitational meet at Hobbton. Midway and Lakewood took the top spots in both the men’s and women’s division.


This is Lakewood’s first cross country team so it was especially nice that Jessica Espinsoa won the women’s side with a time of 25:28. Ashley Hinterleiter from Hobbton came in second at 25:41. Kayla Kibler from Midway took third with a time of 26:03. Hobbton claimed fourth and fifth with times of 25:46 for Nicole Spell and 27:30 for Elvie Sumner.


Espinsoa started strong and never slowed as she ran the 5K course.


On the men’s side, Midway took top honors with Michael McLamb finishing the course at 18:24. Lakewood’s L. J. Faircloth finished second with a time of 19:55. Hobbton claimed places 3, 4, and 5 with Abraheem Alwashhishi at 20:36, Ivan Cruz at 20:42 and Cesar Castillo at 21:51.


Wildcat cross country coach Jeff Klaves, said, “We got off to a very good start and are looking forward to a great season. Midway and Lakewood took the took the top spots in both the men’s and women’s race individually while Hobbton won the team competition on both the Men’s and Women’s sides.”


There is a conference meet at Rosewood Sept. 2.
