The Midway Lady Raiders bounced back from a hard fought non-conference loss to Lakewood on Wednesday with their first conference win over East Bladen. Midway’s varsity and JV teams won their matches, each by seeping the Lady Eagles.


The JV Lady Raiders won 25-10 in the first set and 25-15 in the second. Autumn Byrd scored 12 points off serves and had 7 assists. Blythe Best was 2-2 in the kills category. Logan Baggetthad 5 aces for Midway.


As for the varsity, Midway won the first three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-22 again in the match-clincher. Kelsey Pondo had 11 assists, Savannah Spell had 4 kills and 3 blocks, and Brittany Watson was 3-5 hitting.


“This is a big first conference win on the road. We will try to get ready for Pender on Tuedsday,” said Midway’s head coach, Jennifer Naylor.


Midway will host Pender on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The varsity record is now 3-3, and 1-0 in conference, and the JV squad improves to 3-1 and 1-0 in conference.
