The Hobbton Wildcat volleyball squads each took losses to Princeton, at Princeton on Wednesday evening. For the JV team, it was their first loss, and for the varsity team, it kept them winless on the season. However, Coach Russell Jones said he saw improvement and good things from both teams.
The Hobbton JV team lost in the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-11. In their first match, it was back and forth, but HHS could not get over the hump. The Tigers used a long run to close out the JV match in the second game.
As for the varsity squad, they too were swept on the day. The lost 25-18 in the first set, a set that featured Nina DeVone and Kaylee Matthews making some really nice plays, but it wasn’t enough for the Wildcats to get over the hump.
Hobbton lost the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-13, respectively, as they just couldn’t get anything consistently going.
“We played well and are improving. I really think that we are,” said Hobbton’s head coach, Russell Jones.
Hobbton turns around quickly to play North Duplin at home on Thursday. For Thursday’s game’s story, check out Sunday’s edition of the paper.
