The Clinton volleyball team visited East Bladen on Tuesday for Four County Conference matches against the Eagles. The Lady Dark Horse Varsity won the match in five sets by scores of 15-25, 27-25, 20-25, 25-21, 16-14. “It was a struggle today, I don’t feel like we played our best, but we got the win”, said Clinton head coach Jennifer Edgerton after the game. Key performers for Clinton were Francesca Jauregui with 2 digs, 4 spikes, 1 Tip, 2 kills, and an ace, Jamie Jones with 4 digs, 3 spikes, 5 tips, 2 kills, 2 aces, and 3 blocks, Jackie Parker had 2 spikes, 2 tips and a block, Elizabeth Tsao had 1 dig, 5 spikes, 1 tip, 3 kills, and 2 blocks.
The JV team beat East Bladen’s JV by scores of 25-8 and 25-18 to remain unbeaten on the year.
The Lady Dark Horses returned home on Thursday night to face another conference foe when the Midway Raiders paid a visit to Clinton. Unforced errors were the story of the night for Clinton. After Midway administered a sound beating in the first game by a score of 9-25 the Lady Horses settled down and performed much better in the second set, holding the early lead before committing several unforced errors and yielding to the Raiders by a score of 18-25. As they had in the second set, Clinton opened up an early lead, but again were unable to hold on, losing the final set 23-25.
Midway was led by Kelsey Pondo with 13 serve points and Amber Poole with 14 assists. “We were pleased with our varsity tonight,” said Midway head coach, Jennifer Naylor. “We had huge play tonigt from our captain, Amber Poole, and Haley Brooke West had great net play. Emily Hairr excelled on the back line for us, too,” finished the victorious head coach.
The Lady Dark Horses were led by Jamie Jones with 8 digs, 5 spikes and 7 tips, Francesca Jauregui added 6 digs and 6 spikes, Caitlyn Perry had 7 spikes a dig and an ace, Dayna Demaddis 6 digs, 6 spikes and an ace, Tyneshia Williams had 11 digs, Corey Spell had 4 digs, 5 spikes and 2 aces, Elizabeth Tsao had 4 digs, 8 spikes and 4 aces and Madison Mitchell added 3 spikes. Clinton’s record stands at 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Lady Dark Horses next match is Monday when they play host to Union.
