The Hobbton Wildcat volleyball team split with North Duplin Thursday. The JV won 2-1, the varsity lost 3-0.

In the JV match, North Duplin won the first game. The Wildcats came back winning the next 2 straight. The first game was close with North Duplin taking a 25-23 decision. The second game was 25-21, Hobbton. The third game was 25-8, Hobbton, for the match.

Wildcat coach, Russell Jones, said, “We had a real good stretch with Caitlyn Stegal serving picking up 10 straight points going from 4 to 14. We lost serve and and then went 14-3. We traded points from there on.”

In the varsity match, North Duplin dominated. In the first game, North Duplin won 25-9. The Wildcats got together in the second and kept it close losing 25-27. In the third game North Duplin took it 25-15.

Jones said, “North Duplin played well. We had trouble getting anything going. We never did get a long string of points. We would get 3 or 4 and they would get 3 or 4. We just couldn’t string anything together the whole day. I think we got better. We will come back next week and try to get better.”

Next week, the Wildcats play 3. They will be at Lakewood Tuesday, a make-up game at Goldsboro Wednesday and host Spring Creek Thursday.

The Wildcat JV are 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the conference. The varsity is 1-5, 0-4 in the conference.
