Clinton’s Lady Dark Horse soccer team hosted Union Wednesday night for a match that had been rained out twice previously. With no threat of rain and under bright skies the Lady Horses once again bested a conference foe, bringing the game to an early end in the second half, pitching another shutout, to drop the Lady Spartans 9-0.

The Lady Horses got on the scoreboard at the 3:41 mark when Emily Valenti scored off a Cory Spell assist to give Clinton all they would need to secure the win. Just over two minutes later Clinton added to their lead when Reagan Barefoot threw in to Katey Yang who drove the ball in for a 2-0 lead at the 5:41 mark. Alaina Capps scored the third Clinton goal at 12:23 assisted by Zoey Harris. Nicole Spell kicked in a goal at 18:56 assisted by Grace Reagan for the 4-0 lead. Reagan Barefoot headed in a perfectly placed Alaina Capps pass just in front of the Lady Spartan goal for the first of her two goals at 26:13 and then capped off the first half scoring with her second goal at 35:16 to give the Lady Horses a 6-0 lead that they would take to the halftime break.

Clinton wasted little time finishing off the Lady Spartans with goals from Alaina Capps assisted by Reagan Barefoot at 43:30, Katey Yang assisted by Alaina Capps at 49:05 and Diana Galvin assisted by Reagan Barefoot at the 53:21 mark to bring the game to an early end giving Clinton the 9-0 win.

Clinton head coach Jeff Smith again praised his team saying, “This gets us to 9-0 in the conference. You have to give their keeper a lot of credit, we put a lot of pressure on her all night and she made some nice stops. We had chances to score several more goals that she turned us back on. We moved the ball well tonight, we just have to continue to play hard every time out and get ready for the playoffs.”

The win moves Clinton to 13-2-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play. The Lady Dark Horses will host East Bladen on Friday.
