6/18 - Jorge Nabarrette De La Rosa, 26, 288 Lindsey Farm Lane, Clinton, domestic assault on a female, domestic communicating threats. No bond (48 hour hold); court date July 9.

6/18 - Rosetta Artis, Crutchfield St., Richmond, N.C., reported that someone stole a lighthouse statue valued at $250 from a residence she owns on Greensbridge Road.

6/18 - Ina West, South Eldridge Road, Newton Grove, reported that someone forced the rear door of her home opened. Nothing was reported stolen. Damage to the door was estimated at $100.

6/18 - Christopher Jones, Whitt Road, Newton Grove, reported that someone removed a white 18-inch girls bike valued at $100 and two electric scooters valued at $150 from his property.

6/18 - Jeremy Scott Fann, Baptist Chapel Road, Godwin, reported that someone used a brick to break a window in his home. Nothing was reported stolen. Damage to the window was estimated at $300.

6/18 - Jacinto Cerron, Barnes Lane, Dunn, reported that someone cut rope on his back door, gained entry and took assorted jewelry valued at $1,500 and cash. No damage estimate was listed.

Operation Round Up grants build a stronger community

South River Electric Membership Corporation’s foundation, the Community Assistance Corporation, is helping schools and organizations build a stronger community. The group awarded $45,125.17 in grants through the Operation Round Up program.

The Community Assistance Corporation presented $5,000 grants to the Averasboro Battlefield Commission; Gray’s Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Station 18; and the Tuscarora Council of Boy Scouts of America. The Godwin-Falcon Fire Department, Inc. received a grant for $5,329.47.

In addition, the foundation awarded the following amounts to local educational institutions: the Community Action of Cumberland County Head Start program, $9,829.70; Hobbton Middle School, $10,000; Lillington Shawtown Elementary, $4,966.

South River EMC members participate in Operation Round Up by agreeing to have their bill rounded up to the next dollar each month. If their bill is $112.87, the 13¢ remaining will be put into an account managed by the Community Assistance Corporation.

Quarterly, funds are distributed to local service agencies, educational pursuits or to aid families who are experiencing unusually grave times. The next funding opportunity will be in September, applications are due to the Cooperative by August 23.

Since the Operation Round Up program began in 2009, over $961,320 has been donated back to local communities.

South River EMC is a locally-owned and operated electric cooperative, which provides electric service to 42,000 homes, farms and businesses in parts of Harnett, Cumberland, Sampson, Johnston and Bladen counties.
