The Nuns are in their habits and Father Virgil is in his cassock while the children are in their Sunday go-to-meeting best clothes as they prepare to sing a few carols as the Sampson Community Theatre presents “Nuncrackers: the Nunsense Christmas Musical” on our big stage at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. You will not want to miss the scene where Sister Robert Anne (Angela Martin) uses a hand puppet dressed as a Nun (whose name is Sister Mary Annette) in a comedic skit that will leave you breathless. The hand puppet, incidentally, is being raffled off and raffle tickets may be purchased as you enter or leave the theater or visit the concession stand. This puppet is so adorable everyone who sees it wants to put it on their hand and make her mouth move. We look forward to our audiences laughing a lot and leaving the theater with a big smile on their faces after seeing this delightful show.

Dan Holland, the director of “A Christmas Carol”, had over 40 people show up for auditions this past Saturday and will begin rehearsals soon since he will have only 5-6 weeks to get his relatively large cast ready for the show the last of November and the first weekends of December. Dan has been active on and off for the theater since the early 1980’s having appeared in “Fiddler On The Roof”, “Camelot”, “The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas”, “The Sound Of Music” (two different shows ),”Big River” and in our most recent production of “Harvey”. He was the music director for “My Fair Lady” and directed “L’il Abner” in the late ‘80’s. Dan has been the choir director at First United Methodist Church for many years and has directed multiple shows for the church. We are fortunate to have Dan active with the theater again as his work is always outstanding.

The theater is indebted to Tommy Herring of Hogslat, Inc. for donating to the theater new steps from the audience level to our stage which will have hand rails to aid children and adults going up and down the steps. Thanks to board member Dee Rackley for making this donation possible.

Thanks to the Rotary Club and Sanderson Quick Stops for their purchase of granite blocks under our marquee. Quincy Edgerson will be engraving these blocks in the very near future if they are not already.

The granite blocks under the theater’s marquee may be purchased as an honorarium, a memorial or to advertise your business. The blocks are cemented into the sidewalk and should be there into the next century or more. Contact us by calling 592-8653 and leave us a message for more information.

The Sampson Community Theatre is on the website Facebook and you may read about some of our ongoing activities by going to the site.

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE.

THOUGHTS UNTIL NEXT WEEK:

— Shared joy is double joy; Shared sorrow is half sorrow.

— The nobler sort of man emphasizes the good qualities in others, and does not accentuate the bad. The inferior does the reverse … Confucius
