The Sampson County 4-H Livestock Program members were recently given the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills of the livestock industry at the state contest in Raleigh at the end of June. Over 100 individuals from across the state were present at this three-day event consisting of a practice livestock judging day, judging contest, and skillathon contest. Youth placed 10 classes of sheep, calves, goats, or pigs.

They then gave reasons to officials to defend their placings for two classes.

The skillathon competition consisted of questions covering feed stuffs, equipment, breeds of animals, meat identification, and much more.

Highlights for Sampson County individuals were: 5th place Jr. team in swine- Carlie Piercy, Amber Lackey, Denisse Sadda-Romera, Wyatt Kendall, 8th overall Jr. Individual- Carlie Piercy, 4th individual- Wyatt Kendall. Also participating were Chasen Matthis, Chase Piercy, Tyler Hobbs and Hannah Horne.

If you would like more information on how you can get involved with 4-H activities call the Sampson County 4-H Office at 910-592-7161.
