Midway’s JV boys picked up their first win of the season and led off triplet victories for the visiting Raiders, who handed home team Princeton back-to-back-to back losses in JV, girls and boys action.

The JV thrashed their opponents 91-35.

Junior varsity coach Matthew Creech said he was well-pleased with the way his team came into Tuesday afternoon’s game, but he pointed to the second half as the key to the win.

“Our defense really stepped it up in the second half creating the offense we needed to keep a comfortable lead until the buzzer.”

In all, 10 junior varsity players scored, something that pleased Creech tremendously, nearly as much as the fact that he was able to play so many team members. “That’s what a coach really wants to see happen, getting a lot of guys some time off the bench. The way we played in the third period allowed us to get some guys in during the fourth period.”

And those coming off the bench, Creech said, did a tremendous job. “They played outstanding for us. It was, without question, a total team effort.”

Midway kept a comfortable lead throughout the game, ending the first quarter up 17-11 and going into the half ahead 38-20.

They broke it completely open in the third period and, at the buzzer, were on top 62-25.

“Then we turned it up a notch in the fourth,” Creech stressed. “I actually thought we were a little lackadaisical in the first half, but then we cranked it up and didn’t look back.”

Leading scores for the Raider JV were Paris Smith, 16 points; Andre Sankey, 13; Jamarious Baggett, 12; Cameron Hobbs, 12; Shyheim Small, 10; Ayden Cannady, 10; Collin Warren, 6; J.D. Lockamy, 4; and Jackson Carr, 4.

The win moves the Raiders to 1-1 on the season, with conference play starting in mid-December. Midway’s JV travels to South Johnston Thursday for their next game.
