The Sampson Arts Council’s 2012 Celebrity Golf Tournament, “Golf For The Arts,” was, organizers say, a huge success.
A kickoff “Meet and Greet” reception was held June 14 at the Victor R. Small House. Everyone, said Arts Council executive director Kara Donatelli, enjoyed mingling with celebrities and friends.
The tournament was held the following day, June 15, at Coharie Country Club, and the weather, she said, could not have been more perfect. A total of 88 golfers participated in the tournament, which included 16 celebrities.
The celebrity team of Steve Fine came out on top this year. Other celebrity athletes included Roman Gabriel, Roman Gabriel III, Jeff Bostic, Jeff Lane and Ron Long.
“Many, many thanks go to our major sponsors US Foods, Caison Enterprises (McDonald’s), Ribeyes, Go Automotive, Matthews, Hog Slat and Evelyn Dosen Training,” Donatelli said. ” A total of 144 local individuals and businesses sponsored this event by donating a door prize, purchasing an ad in our commemorative booklet, purchasing a tee sign, or playing as a team or individual golfer. Thank you to all of our sponsors for making this year’s tournament bigger and better than ever.”
Proceeds raised from the golf tournament support the Summer Art Camps and Art Camp scholarships for select students. Funds also support the Sampson Arts Council’s arts programming and events throughout the year. These events include Art for Lunch, Student Art Club, Artist Exhibits and Receptions, Adult Art Classes and Sunday Happenings.
“The Sampson Arts Council would like to thank Debbie Roberts and Helen Kearns who co-chaired our 2012 Golf Committee. This is their third year organizing the Celebrity Golf Tournament and we are truly grateful for their dedication and hard work,” Donatelli noted. “This event would not have been a success without them. “
Golf Committee members were Wendy Carr, Kristi Williford, Paula Fitzpatrick, Barbara Werner, Dee Rackley-Winkler, Hadley Daniel, Shawn Purdie, Grace Ho, Crystal Faison, Bonnie Gribble, Kara Donatelli, Nancy Heath, Ginny Judge, Carol Mirelez-Monk, Evelyn Dosen and Micki McPhail.
