Discovery of a break-in led to an even bigger find when authorities determined that chemicals located on the property were likely used to produce a meth lab.
The incident began on March 2, around 2:40 p.m., when Jinnie Lee of Southwood Drive, Clinton, went to check on her vacant property, located at 137 Sampson Acres Drive.
When Lee arrived at the residence, she noticed that someone had forced open the door to gain entry. While nothing was reported missing, Lee called authorities after discovery chemicals and other items that led her to believe that someone had set up a meth lab at the location.
Investigators with the county’s Special Investigations Division responded to the Sampson Acres property and determined that the items were, in fact, waste products from a meth lab.
Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation were called to take possession of the chemicals.
The incident, said Capt. Eric Pope, is still under investigation.
