A walk to a downtown gas station to get a soda turned into a nightmare for a 26-year-old Clinton man who reported being shot at three times Tuesday night.
Gregory Stewart, 26, of Pink Lane, Clinton, told investigators he was on his was on his way to the Spirit Store in Clinton around 8:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday night when he noticed a vehicle pull near him as he was passing the rear entrance to Taylor and Sanderson, 301 Vance St. Shortly after seeing the vehicle, he heard three gunshots ring out.
According to Clinton police Corporal Edgar Carter, he met with Stewart the next morning in the emergency room of Sampson Regional Medical Center.
“He was suffering a small caliber gunshot wound to his right leg,” Carter noted. “He was treated and released later in the day.”
The only information Stewart was able to give the offcier about the suspect was that he was traveling in a black or brown vehicle, perhaps a Toyota or a Honda.
“He didn’t have a lot of information,” Carter said. “In fact, he didn’t think he had been shot; he thought he was grazed by a bullet but not shot.”
Investigators are searching for any information regarding the incident.
“We are hoping maybe someone was in the area,” noted Carter, and maybe they saw a suspicious vehicle in the lot at that time. Any kind of information that someone could give would be helpful.”
