A Clinton City Schools bus driver was charged with an unsafe movement after she pulled in front of oncoming traffic Monday morning and caused a collision with another vehicle that was carrying five students, none who were injured.

The bus driver’s name, which was not available from the Clinton Police Department Monday afternoon, was cited for unsafe movement after the incident that took place around 7:30 a.m., according to officer Matt Bland.

Bland explained that the bus driver, who had no passengers on the bus, pulled onto Indiantown Road as a Ford compact vehicle, driven by a Clinton High student and carrying four other students as passengers, was traveling south. The Ford smashed into the left rear of the bus at an estimated 25-30 mph, the officer estimated.

“We are not releasing the names of the driver or passenger in the Ford, because they are all juveniles,” Bland noted. The bus driver’s name was not immediately available either. “There were no injuries, but there was damage to the front of the car.”

Bland noted that there was a heavy amount of traffic in front of the school even before the incident. “After the wreck, the traffic just got worse,” he noted. “It wasn’t tied up for too long, but it just goes to show that when people are near schools or in school zones, they need to slow down. A lot of people speed through those zones and it just takes a second to slow down to be safe.”

No injuries were reported in the incident.
