The CHS Women’s Cross Country team weathered the conditions of Hurricane Sandy on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Boyd Lee Park in Winterville, and qualified for the 2A Cross Country State Championship, a history-making first for a Clinton High School Women’s Cross Country team.

Twelve- 2A high school teams competed at the regional meet and the top four cumulative team scores advanced to the state championship meet to be held in Kernersville Saturday, Nov. 3.

Senior Lexi Valenti stated “Many hours of hard work and training have paid off. Coach (Rhonda) Davis has supported us from start to finish!”

Senior Margaret Coleman stated “When they announced “Clinton High School” to advance to the State Championship, we were ecstatic! I am so proud for this team, Grace Reagan (who qualified individually), and for making school history.”

Reagan qualified for team and individual state competition by finishing in 9th place at the regional meet with a time of 21:38 in the 5K event.

At the beginning of the season Davis stated, “I think this might be our year!”
