It may have cooled off outside, but it’s going to be steaming in the gyms at Clinton High and Sampson Middle schools this Saturday, as the Lady Dark Horses host a 21-team basketball jamboree.

The start time is 9 a.m. and it is expected to end around 6 p.m. Admission is $5 and concessions will be sold. Three games will be going on at the same time and will last 50 minutes each. The games will be played in the Clinton High main gym, the Clinton High auxiliary gym, and in the Sampson Middle gym.

Participants are Lakewood, Midway, James Kenan, Richlands, Hoggard, Nash Central, St. Pauls, Cape Fear, Eastern Wayne, Lumberton, West Johnston, Northside, Southern Wayne, Whiteville, Cleveland, Goldsboro, Western Harnett, Red Springs, Croatan, Panther Creek, North Brunswick, and, of course, Clinton.

Since the games are shortened to 50 minutes, the rules are a bit different than in a regulation game. There will be two 20-minute halves with a running clock. Halftime is three minutes and each team gets one time-out per half.

The clock will only stop in the second half at the one-minute mark. It will be a regulation game at that time, and both teams will be in the bonus.

If a player is fouled in the act of shooting and misses, that team gets one point, plus the player gets a free throw attempt. If the player makes the shot after being fouled, then that basket counts, plus the player gets one free throw attempt.

Overtime is three minutes and each team gets one time out.
