Suspect was jailed

when charges leveled

A Rose Hill man allegedly involved in a drive-by shooting on May 26 in Duplin County did not turn himself to authorities last week, as reported in Tuesday’s Sampson Independent. Instead, he was in the Sampson County jail when the charges were leveled.

Initial reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office indicated that Dalevonta Oneal McLamb, 24, of 229 Fourth St., Rose Hill, had turned himself last Thursday; however, Duplin County court documents show the suspect was arrested on May 27 on two probation violations unrelated to the shooting and placed under a $100,000 secured bond. He was transported to the Sampson County Detention Center, where he has been ever since.

He was charged with first degree murder last week in connection with the drive-by shooting. The Independent regrets any confusion this may have caused.
