Clinton’s Dark Horse girls split wins with Richlands Tuesday night, with the JV losing in two and the varsity getting the sweep.
In the JV game, the girls fell 18-25, 21-25, close games that coach Jennifer Miller said Clinton had a shot at winning.
“It was pretty close from the start, but we had a few errors, and during a close game those add up pretty fast,” Miller stressed.
Individually for the junior varsity, Maria Thornton had 8 service points, 2 kills; Madison Mitchell, 12 digs, 3 kills; and Zoey Harris, 7 digs, 4 kills.
Coming off Monday’s win against East Bladen, Clinton’s varsity had the momentum going into the road game Tuesday, and that momentum paid off as the Lady Horses got the sweep — 21-25; 23-25; 17-25.
“It was a really good conference win for us,” Miller said. “The girls played a really good game. I know it’s cliche, but they honestly played like a team tonight and that made the difference.”
Individually for the varsity, Maggie Wells had 15 service points; Spencer Norris, 9 service points, 5 of them aces; and 5 kills; and Peyton Mitchell, 14 digs, 4 kills.
Clinton moves to 8-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference. They host Croatan Thursday in games that begin at 4:30 p.m.
