The Newton Grove Fire Department broke ground recently for a 2,683 square foot addition that will be used for a new bay area.

Due to growth in the area, the current fire station needed to be expanded, fire officials noted. The project will also include renovations to the office and meeting area as well as 2,064 square feet for future expansion.

The project superintendent Braxton Carter said he expects the building to be completed shortly after the first of the year. Financial assistance is being provided by First Citizens Bank and Trust.
