This year, Harrells Christian Academy’s Junior Beta Club sponsored a canned food drive as part of their annual community service project. All HCA family members were invited to donate food. Everyone in the community stepped up to the plate and donated almost 1,000 canned goods, school officials said.

Junior Betas were able to reap the fruits of their labors. Students, club advisor Joshua Hunter, Spiritual Life Director Paula Matthis, and Parent/Teacher Volunteer Michelle Quinn trekked to the Harrell’s Nutrition Center to deliver the food to local senior citizens.

Club officers Will Huff and Marianne Moore led the group in a short devotion. The group sang several familiar hymns with the group and spent time praying, visiting, and telling jokes.

“We are pleased to make a difference in our community,” said Huff, Junior Beta president, “because that’s what Beta represents. This also gives us a chance to minister to our community.”

The additional food that was collected will be distributed to local needy families at Christmas.
