LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Mrs. Hazel Burgett Sherman, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery in Roseboro.

Mrs. Sherman, born March 28, 1940, in Roseboro and was one of 12 children of the late James Robert Burgett and Eliza Branch Burgett. She was the wife of Stephen Sherman. While raising her children, Hazel earned her Bachelor and Master degrees, culminating in a Doctorate from the University of William and Mary in 1976. Hazel was a life-long educator and served as a teacher and principal in the Clark County School District in Nevada for over 10 years. Her hobbies included genealogy, quilting, and puzzles. With a zest for adventure, she enjoyed boating on Lake Mead, golfing, scuba diving, snow skiing and even tried bungee jumping. She lived and traveled all over the United States and enjoyed visiting Canada, Mexico, and Europe. She will be fondly remembered for her smile, sense of humor, southern charm, and loving impact on those she knew.

Mrs. Sherman was predeceased by two sisters, Nancy Brown and Eula Hinshaw; and two brothers, Robert Burgett and David Burgett.

She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Stephen Sherman of the home; a daughter, Kimberly Dobaj and husband, Tony of Denver, Colo.; a son, David Sherman of Florida; two grandsons, Demitri and Harrison Dobaj; six sisters, Ruth Bullard of Fayetteville, Marie Stephenson of Fuquay Varina, Lexie Lewis of Dunn, Myrtis Westbrook and Carolyn Sessoms, both of Clinton, and Grey Britt of Roseboro; a brother, Ellis Burgett of Salemburg.

The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m., the hour prior to the service, Thursday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home.
