The Hobbton Middle Lady Wildcat volleyball team improved their record to 7-1 on the season after a hard fought victory over Union Middle on Tuesday.

“Union is a very tough team,” stated Hobbton coach Chip Pollock. “They play very hard and have two hitters unlike anyone else we see all year.”

Hobbton took the first set 25-18 behind the serving of Maddy Roesch. “Maddy won this game almost singlehandedly with her 13 service points,” Pollock said. “When you can get a lift like that from one server, it makes a coach’s job much easier.”

The Spartans won a tight second set 27-25.

Hobbton managed to scrape together a third set win, 25-21. “We really never took control of the set because Union kept up constant pressure,” Pollock noted. “The momentum that Union got from winning the second allowed them to lead most of the way, but fortunately, we made some key plays at crucial times to win the set.”

Hobbton sealed the victory with a 25-11 victory in the fourth set.

“I was very pleased with the play of both of our captains, Makenzie and Nina, as well as Caitlyn Stegal for gutting it out after tweaking her ankle, Katlyn Ballance, and Ashley Hinterleiter for some quality serving,” Pollock said.

Hobbton and Union are idle until Monday when they rematch at UMS.
