After coming off a strong varsity win over Goldsboro Wednesday night, the Hobbton Wildcat girls delivered their third victory performance of the season Thursday night with a 3-0 victory over the visiting North Duplin Rebels.

Serving and solid defense lifted the Lady Cats to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the varsity Rebels 25-16; 25-13; and 25-13.

“I thought the girls played pretty good tonight,” said Hobbton head coach Russell Jones. “We are kinda rebuilding, but I was really pleased with what I saw tonight. I thought the girls played great.”

Leaders for the varsity Wildcats were: Taylor Bowden, 2 aces and 13 assists; Marcy McLamb, 1 ace and 1 kill; Casey Hobbs, 6 aces and 8 kills; Michaela Wilson, 1 ace and 4 kills; McKenna Smith, 1 ace and 3 kills; Courtney Phipps, 3 aces; and Rayann Eldridge, 5 aces.

With the victory, the Lady Wildcats remain unbeaten in the young season at 3-0.

JV Girls

Despite impressive play from standout Melissa Gallegos, 7 aces and 1 assist. the Hobbton JV girls volleyball team was unable to overcome an aggressive Rebel squad Thursday afternoon.

Reese Holland and Joanna Hinson, both with two kills, and Haley Martinez, with an ace, helped to lift the Wildcats in the second game, but a late run and strong defense from North Duplin at the end of game two left Hobbton behind, falling in two games, 14-25 and 21-25.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 0-3.

Both the JV and varsity teams will play again Tuesday at home vs. visiting Spring Creek. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.
