Clinton’s Dark Horses sent the Richlands Wildcats packing Monday night as the home team opened its 2A conference play with a 2-1 win.
But the win wasn’t pretty, as the Horses fought back from a 1-0 half-time deficit to knot the score and eventually grab the game-winner.
About nine minutes into the second period, Juan Alvarado got a free kick to get the Horses within reach of the victory, then Eric Bradshaw hit the back of the net with just minutes left in the game to give Clinton the win.
“It was a good game,” said coach Brad Spell. “We played really hard. There were times when we didn’t play smart, but we held tough and didn’t quit.
“We lost our head at times, but we regrouped and got the job done. I was pleased with the effort,” Spell said.
Clinton moves to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Horses travel to Croatan Wednesday for their second conference game of the season. Game time is 6:30.
The JV Horses also got a win Monday, defeating the younger Wildcats 2-1.
