Clinton’s JV Horse might have routed Swansboro in a road game last Thursday night, but their coach, Michael Bell, wasn’t completely satisfied with their performance either. Final score 25-0.

“We aren’t playing a complete game,” Bell said after the game. “We can’t put two halves together. We had a lot of penalties in the second half and we had a turnover on the 5-yard line in the third quarter.”

At the same time, Bell said he was able to play a lot of team members in the Thursday game on both offense and defense and, what’s more, his team was only giving up about 6 points per game. “I’m happy about that,” Bell said, “but at the same time, as a coach, you have to look at the entire game. We played a solid first half, but we didn’t do nearly as well in the second quarter.”

Tyree Payton got the two touchdowns on the night, running the first one in from the 10-yard line. Then Albert Deaver took one in from 45 yards out.

The final touchdown came when Raquan Faison ran 6 yards for the score.

Jonathan Wright made one point after. One 2-point conversion failed, as did one PAT.

“We got of the bus ready to play,” Bell said, “and they came out playing really strong. They jumped right in and did what they are supposed to do. They took care of their jobs. But we just didn’t have a strong second half.

The win moves Clinton’s record to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

They travel to Topsail Thursday night.
