Clinton’s JV boys defended their home turf and their perfect record Friday afternoon, defeating Swansboro 56-34.
It was, coach Bobby Lamb said, a strong defensive showing by his young Horses, who came out of the gate hot and maintained consistent play throughout the game.
“The key tonight (Friday) was the guys coming off the bench and playing as a team. They run a solid offense and defense, and the defense held really strong in the third period when Swansboro tried to make a comeback.”
Clinton took a commanding 15-5 lead in the first quarter and continued the hot streak into the second period, taking a 31-15 lead into the break.
Swansboro tried to stage a comeback in the third quarter, scoring 13 points to Clinton’s 9, but the deficit was too much for the visitors to overcome, with Clinton sinking 16 more points in the final frame and holding their opponents to only 6.
Leading the way for the JV boys was Maurice Robinson with 12 points. Also scoring was Jaquan McLean, 9; Michael Boykin, 7; Logan Batchelor, 6; Josiah Pope, 5; Kevin Scott, 4; Jalen Best, 4; Rayquan Faison, 4; Kenjuan Morrisey, 3; and Drequan Bryant, 2.
Clinton’s record moves to 12-0. They return to the court for a home game against Topsail Tuesday.
