The Clinton High Dark Horse JV and varsity volleyball teams went into Topsail Thursday night and returned to Clinton with two losses.

JV

Despite solid play from Jamie Jones (5 kills, 2 aces) and Madison Mitchell (8 digs and 4 kills), the Lady JV Horses were unable to overcome a strong Topsail defense, falling 25-14 and 25-23.

“We got off to a slow start,” admitted head coach Jennifer Miller. “We made a few errors, but I was happy to see the girls, especially being JV, putting themselves in a position to win. They are improving and that is all you can ask for.”

With the loss, Clinton’s JV falls to 7-11 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Varsity

Clinton’s varsity volleyball team fell 3-0 to Topsail with final scores of 25-10; 25-15; and 25-18.

“Topsail is the best team in our conference,” notes Miller. “I thought that we had a few too many ball handling errors tonight. You just can’t give up errors like that against a team like Topsail and expect to win.”

Leaders for Clinton: Tiandra Johnson, 4 kills, 3 aces; Tori Tyndall, 4 kills; Peyton Mitchell, 7 digs, 2 kills; and Jamie Jones, 2 kills.

With the loss, the Lady Horses fall to 8-11 overall and 3-8 in the conference. Both JV and varsity will play at home Tuesday night vs. East Bladen. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.
