Lakewood’s Leopard girls — JV and varsity — took a bite out of the Bulldogs Thursday night, sending the visitors packing without a win for either.

Both teams got a sweep, with the JV wining 25-11, 25-17, and maintaining their hold on first place in the Tri-County Conference. The varsity won 25-17; 25-20; 25-12.

Coach Sheila Davidson said she was extremely proud of her junior varsity team, noting how they had gelled during the week. “I just love the way they’ve come together this week; they’ve really bonded, and as a coach, it’s something you really enjoy seeing.”

Davidson said the girls were playing stronger, showing perseverance when they would get in tough spots.

“Tonight was a good win for the JV,” Davidson said of the young Leopards who remain perfect in conference play.

Individually for the JV Thursday, Emily Lewis had 13 service points, 4 aces and 13 assists; Alissa Horne, 15 service points, 6 aces, 4 kills; Rasheeda Parker, 4 service points, 10 kills, 2 blocks; Syndey Parker, 4 service points, 2 aces; Kiera Rich, 3 kills, 1 block; and Asia Eason, 5 service points, 2 aces and 1 kill.

In the varsity game, Davidson said the Lady Leopards played hard but disconnected. “On the one hand I was proud of how hard they played throughout the game, on the other, I didn’t like how unorganized they looked. It was a good win, but as a coach you have to look at areas where you need work, and we need to work on being better connected.

The Lakewood coach said she intended to give the kills Friday off from practice, an unusual occurrence, but one she felt would help them get refreshed and ready for next week.

“I’m hoping that will give them a break, so they can come back ready to play.”

For the varsity, Amanda Kook had 7 service points and 18 assists; Morgan Herring, 8 service points, 4 aces, 10 kills; Bailey Dudley, 16 service points, 4 aces, 7 kills, 3 blocks, 1 assist; Tiesha Rich, 10 service points; Katie Strickland, 13 service points, 4 aces; and Jache Servance, 3 service points.

The Leopards will host Trask Tuesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
