The Lady Leopards’ winning streak left North Duplin out in the cold again, as host team Lakewood beat the Lady Rebels 7 -2 on Monday.

“We started off a bit slack, but the girls picked it up in the 4th and 5th inning. I’m happy with how it all ended and with how they played,” an elated, but tired, Lakewood head coach Dave Yarasheski said after the game. “I’m happy with the way they bounced back.”

“It got cold out there when the sun went down,” he added with a laugh.

Stats for the game showed Sabra Knowles with 3 hits and 2 runs scored; Miranda Lane, 1 hit and 2 runs scored; Alyssa Horne, 2 hits and 1 run scored; Amanda Bowden, 3 walks and 1 run scored; Morgan Herring 1 hit and 1 run scored; and Ashton Hairr, Emily Lewis, and Bailey Dudley all had one hit each.

“There were eight girls with stolen bases. We did a good job of base running today,” Coach Yarasheski assessed.

On the defensive side, Knowles pitched 3 innings, struck out 1 batter, and did not allow any runs. Amanda Bowden struck out 2 batters, but allowed two runs.

The Leopards travel to Wallace-Rose Hill on Thursday for their first conference game.
