Two Clinton men were arrested and charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods after a quick-thinking landowner caught the two reportedly attempting to remove a mobile home from his property.
James Reginald Baylor, 53, of 120 Don St., Clinton; and Johnnie Ray Faison, 50, of 1891 Hobbton Highway, Clinton, were each charged Monday evening with larceny and possession of stolen goods and placed under $4,500 unsecured bonds after investigators found items belonging to the landowner at Baylor’s residence.
According to reports from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, neighbors of Doug Carr notified him that two male suspects were on his property Monday.
Carr, who was in Moltenville at the time, returned to his property to allegedly find the two suspect attempting to remove a mobile home. However, in their attempt to take the structure, reportedly hitched to a Dodge Dakota truck, the unit hit a tree and came off the frame and the hitch.
Reports state that Carr confronted the men, who gave him their correct names. The suspects told Carr they had permission to remove the items from the land.
After the confrontation, the men left. Carr managed to get a license plate number of the truck and immediately notified deputies.
When investigators arrived at Baylor’s property, they found a previously missing pull camper valued at $1,200; a .22 semi-automatic rifle valued at $100; and a mobile unit frame valued at $200, all said to belong to Carr.
Baylor and Faison are expected to appear in court on Nov. 13.
