Lakewood’s girls — JV and varsity — got impressive road wins against North Duplin Wednesday, sweeping the Rebels in both matches.
The JV Leopards defeated the home team 17-25, 15-25.
The varsity offered up their own sweep, winning 7-25; 8-25; 18-25.
Coach Sheila Davidson said she was thrilled by the way her girls played Wednesday, nothing that she was able to play all of her team members, mixing up lineups and trying new things while, at the same time, still having success.
“It’s the kind of thing you want to be able to do as a coach,” Davidson said. “It makes me happy when I can do things like this and we are still able to achieve success. I’ve got a good group of girls that make it possible to do just that. Today (Wednesday) was a complete team effort by both the JV and varsity.
JV leaders Wednesday included Emily Lewis, 6 assists; Alissa Parker, 11 service points, 2 aces, 2 kills; Kiara Rich, 4 kills, 1 block and 8 service points; and Daja King, 4 service points.
For the varsity, Allyson Heinz had 10 assists; Amana Kook, 5 assists; Morgan Herring, 4 aces, 10 service points; 6 kills; Bailey Dudley, 6 kills, 1 block; Katie Stewart, 6 kills, 10 service points, 1 ace; and Teisha Rich, 7 service points, 1 ace, 8 kills.
Both the JV and varsity hold perfect 8-0 records. They travel to James Kenan Thursday for another conference match.
