WALLACE — They gave it all they had Wednesday afternoon, but the No. 1 ranked Bulldogs proved too fierce for Lakewood’s boys soccer team. The ‘Dogs got the shutout 4-0.

But Leopard coach Jay Faircloth said he wasn’t disappointed overall in the way his team played.

“We made some mistakes, and that’s frustrating, but they played with a lot of heart, they never gave up, and really, that’s all I can ask for.”

Faircloth said Wallace was a seasoned team and one that his younger team simply could not match up with very well. “We did everything we could and I’m proud of my guys.”

Faircloth said he told the guys earlier in the week that there were seven games left in the regular season and how they played was really up to them.

“I told them I was here for them, but in the end how the rest of the season goes is up to them. They’ve got to want it and go after it,” Faircloth said.

Lakewood hosts Trask Monday afternoon in a 5 p.m. game.
