An assault on a 53-year-old handicapped woman, and witnessed by EMS workers, has left a Newton Grove man facing charges and a $5,000 bond.
John Marti, 41, of 762 Share Cake Road, Newton Grove, was charged with assault on a handicapped person Monday around 6 p.m. at his residence. Marti was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center and placed under a $5,000 bond and given a trial date of Aug. 1.
According to Cpl. Marcus Smith, EMS workers went to Marti’s residence just before 6 p.m. Monday in response to a victim falling down. When they got there, the emergency workers allegedly witnessed the suspect kicking a woman, who is handicapped, in the side with his foot.
The report lists the woman as Marti’s wife.
EMS workers immediately called investigators and treated the woman for non-life-threatening injuries.
Within minutes, Marti, who stands at 6 foot 3 inches tall and weighs 240 pounds, was taken into custody by Sampson County Sheriff’s Office investigators.
