Man facing larceny charge after allegedly stealing $58 in items

A 22-year-old Clinton man was arrested within an hour of allegedly stealing just under $60 in merchandise from a local store Monday.

Luis Ortiz, 22, of 76 Max Austin Lane, Clinton, was charged with larceny after the incident that took place Monday around 8:49 a.m. at Walmart, located at 1414 Sunset Ave., Clinton.

According to reports, Clinton police officers responded to the call of a larceny at the department store after security officials noticed a man stealing clothes, three CDs, and a DVD. Total value of the items $58.

Warrants were issued for Ortiz’s arrest and he was taken into custody without incident at his home.

Once charged, Ortiz was given a $1,600 bond and a trial date of Aug. 13.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, the suspect has one previous conviction for DWI dating back to October of 2011.
