The Midway Middle girls volleyball team took over first place Tuesday afternoon when they won an all-out five-set battle against rival Hobbton Middle in Wildcat country. Scores were 12-25; 25-23; 23-25; 25-23; 16-18.

Raider coach Tracey Wrench said the game was a great one, played well by both teams.

“I was well pleased with my girls, but Hobbton’s an awesome team, too. It was just a great all-around game.”

Wrench said her girls played “team ball,” all afternoon, something, she stressed, she likes to see. “They played with great hustle.”

She singled out the play of Haley West, who, she said, had the best game she had seen her play. “Haley did a fantastic job all the way around today. I was very proud of her.”

Also touted were Blythe Best who, Wrench said, had great serves; Logan Baggett who, the coach stressed played the entire game, with outstanding serves and great hustle; and Alex Cannady who she called a “real go-getter,” playing strong throughout the afternoon.

Hobbton and Midway were tied going into Tuesday’s game, and now the Raiders are in first, with the young ‘Cats in second.

Midway, Wrench said, had two games left, Thursday afternoon’s against Roseboro-Salemburg and Monday against Union.
