Two incidents had sirens blaring through the city of Clinton Monday afternoon, according to officials at the Clinton Fire Department.
A little after 2:30 p.m. firefighters were called to a fire located in a trailer on Clinton Drive. However, by the time they arrived on scene, the fire had already been extinguished by a neighbor.
“It was a grease fire,” said Clinton fire chief Todd Solice Tuesday. “There was a little fire damage and some smoke damage to the trailer.”
Solice said a quick-thinking neighbor may have saved a life and the trailer.
“We responded and mutual aid was called as well,” he said. “Luckily, it was out by the time we got there and aid was canceled. The neighbor acted quickly and put it out. There was one person taken to the hospital to get checked out, with light burns, but everyone was OK.”
Solice said that engines were also called to a fire at a home on Ferrell Street after 6 p.m. Monday night.
“When we got there, it was just smoke from someone cooking,” he said. “It turned out that the alarm went off and we were called.”
Solice said that in both cases, alarms were effective.
“It is that time of year when you need to make sure your batteries in your smoke alarms are fresh,” he said. “It is usually a good rule that when the time changes, it is time to change your batteries. It is always better to be safe than sorry.”
